European Society for the study of Human Evolution

The society promotes research into human biological and cultural evolution, by stimulating communication and cooperation between scientists, and raising public awareness and understanding. We host an annual meeting open to registered participants, and we publish the proceedings of these meetings as a series.

6th Annual ESHE Meeting - 14-18 September, 2016 - Madrid, Spain

The 6th Annual ESHE meeting will take place at the Museo Arquelógico Regional in Alcalá de Henares in Madrid, Spain from 15-17th September, 2016. The meeting will be followed by an excursion to the Pinilla del Valle site on Sunday the 18th of September with a picnic lunch and transport provided. The ESHE meeting is proudly hosted by the Museo Arquelógico Regional. Many thanks to the local organisers: Juan Luis Arsuaga, Enriqué Baquedano Perez and Belén Marquez Mora.

  • 19:00 - 21:00 - Keynote lecture and official opening.
  • This year's keynote lecture will be held by: Fernando Colmenares of the Universidad Complutense Madrid

  • Interactive Q&A session and clinic with the Editors of the Journal of Human Evolution

    We are inviting PhD students, post-docs and early career researchers to meet the Editors of the Journal of Human Evolution in an informal setting and ask their questions on how to get published in the journal. The session will be run during the lunch break and food and refreshments will be provided. Places are limited, so please register by contacting Mikaela Lui at info@eshe.eu in order to secure your place.

    Attendees who are currently working on a manuscript, are welcome to bring it along. The Editors will be happy to privately go over it at the end of the session and provide some feedback.

  • Closing Party - This year's closing party will take place in the stunning main hall at the Muséo Arquelógico Regional. Tickets for the dinner cost 30€ and are available for purchase with registration.

    Sunday, 18th September
  • Excursion: Pinilla del Valle archaeological site. Price per person: 10€
  • This year's excursion will take place at the Pinilla del Valle archaeological site, located approximately 1.5 hours outside of Madrid. The excursion includes a coach to and from the site as well as a picnic lunch and refreshments.
